The Project

This project is funded by the Massachusetts Development Finance Agency (MassDevelopment). Beginning in December (2025) and ending in June (2026), the Horsley Witten Group, Inc. (HW) and Union Studio Architecture & Community Design (Union) are working with the Town of East Bridgewater and MassDevelopment to study how best to leverage redevelopment of the former Precise Engineering property on 54 West Union Street (currently owned by the Town) and the adjacent former Eastern States Steel property at 36 Cook Street (the Town is exploring options to get control of this site). Below is a summary of the expected work:

1: Existing Conditions Report: Through research, meetings, and at least one site visit, HW will prepare a memo summarizing the sites’ existing conditions.

2: Project Website: To keep the public informed and engaged, HW will maintain this website throughout the project and develop educational materials.

3: Public Meeting #1: HW, Union, and the Town will host a public meeting, where HW will present the existing conditions and seek feedback from the public.

4: Concept Drawings: Union and HW will develop up to four detailed drawings with descriptions to show what potential redevelopments of the properties could look like.

5: Public Meeting #2: HW, Union, and the Town will host a second public meeting, where HW and Union will present the concept drawings, answer questions, and gather public feedback. After the meeting, HW will post the drawings on this website accompanied by a survey to gather feedback from more of the community.

6: Final Scenarios and Report: Based on feedback the public gave at the previous public meeting and through the online survey, HW and Union will develop two final scenarios (in the forms of 2D and 3D/bird’s eye view images). They will also develop a final report, which will have those images, a description of the project’s process, and next steps the Town could take.
